The President of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Bashkim Dedja, received in the premises of this court a delegation of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, composed of Mr. Jorgen Steen Sorensen, member of the Venice Commission, Mr. James Hamilton, former alternate member of the Venice Commission, Ms. Artemiza-Tatiana Chisca, Secretariat of the Venice Commission, as well as Mr. Olsi Dekovi, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Tirana.
The meeting in the Constitutional Court is part of the 2-day agenda of the Venice Commission delegation in the framework of preparing the opinion on the constitutional amendments for the vetting process of politicians, which includes the assessment of relations of senior state officials with organized crimes, proposed by opposition parliamentary groups.
During the meeting, Mr. Dedja informed the delegation about the up to now progress of justice system reform, focusing in particular on the process of establishing new institutions of justice.
President Dedja expressed his gratitude for the cooperation between the Constitutional Court of Albania and the Venice Commission in the field of constitutional justice as well as the valuable assistance and expertise provided by this Commission.
