Upon the invitation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania, a delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia, headed by its President, Prof. Dr. Jasna Omejec, paid an official visit in Albania, on October 1 – 4, 2009.
On the first day of its visit in Albania, the Croatian delegation also composed of Mr. Mato Arlović, Mrs. Nevenka Šernhorst, Mr. Mario Jelušić, judges, and Mrs. Ksenija Podgornik, Head of President’s Cabinet, was received at the premises of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania by the President of this court, Dr. Vladimir Kristo. During this meeting, President Kristo put forward the idea of signing an agreement of cooperation between the Constitutional Courts of Albania and Croatia. The idea was welcomed by the President of the Constitutional Court of Croatia and its conclusion is expected to be finalized within a short period of time. This agreement will mark an important step toward the deepening of the mutual relations of institutional cooperation.
In the following days, the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Croatia held official meetings with the highest Albanian state personalities. The delegation was received by the President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Bamir Topi, and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Mrs. Shpresa Beçaj. Croatian delegation was accompanied in these meetings also by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia in the Republic of Albania, H.E. Mr. Darko Javorski.
Part of the program of this official visit was the organization of the round table on “The protection of individuals’ constitutional rights from the perspective of the European Convention on Human Rights,” which was held on October 3rd, 2009, in the coastal city of Vlora. The most important reports of this meeting, whose main goal was the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the judges of both constitutional courts through open dialogues and discussions, were delivered by the President of the Constitutional of Croatia, Prof. Jasna Omejec, and the judge of the Constitutional Court of Albania, Mr. Kujtim Puto.
On the last day of its visit in our country, the delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia visited the national museum “Gjergj Kastrioti” in the city of Kruja.
