Round table "The Independence of Constitutional Courts"
The Constitutional Court of Albania and the German Foundation “Konrad Adenauer” organized today a round table on the topic "The independence of Constitutional Courts". This joint activity promoted the book "Selected Decisions of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany" and it was organized in the context of the need to consolidate the rule of law as a necessity for our European future. " ... There can’t be rule of law without an independent judiciary, with high moral and professional integrity", stressed in his speech the President of Constitutional Court Dr. Vladimir Kristo.
During the seminar, it was highly appreciated the jurisprudence of the German Constitutional Court as one of the oldest constitutional courts and the most qualitative one in terms of decision-making.
The Edition translated in Albanian for the legal community, and not only, will be a contribution to the Albanian constitutional judges, who must "... learn from the experience and from our mistakes," as stated Dr. Matthias Hartwig. The event was attended by representatives of the institutions of the HCJ, the Ombudsman, the Supreme Court, courts of first instance and courts of appeal, the Prosecutor General and academics. This activity focused on discussions and opinions regarding the independence of the judiciary in general and constitutional justice in particular.
President of the foundation, Dr.iur Stefania Ricarda Roos, said that the Foundation will be close to Albania, as in other countries in the region, to assist in the exchange of experiences, enhancing the quality of the Constitutional Court's decision, especially the respect for human rights and freedoms. This activity was also welcomed by Mr. Jan Rudolph, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Germany in Albania.
